The BackBox
product (virtual tapes) and the new BackLib product (library
management) are merged in the BackPak tape management
infrastructure.
BackBox and
BackLib share the same BackPak software distribution
package; the different personalities are enabled by the
license key.
BackLib is
documented in separate User manual and Installation Guide.
“BackBox domain”
is renamed to “BackPak domain”, as a single domain can
manage both BackBox and BackLib tape drives.
New
Disaster/Recovery option.
This option
replicates the BackPak and the DSM/TC tape catalog to
another NonStop system for use in a D/R takeover scenario.
Replication is incremental during backup operations, each
time a written volume is unloaded. The catalogs of the two
NonStop systems can be resynchronized after particular
events. DSM/TC replication includes data adjustments for
changing the NonStop node name, catalog name and pool name
in all DSMTC entities (TAPEVOLUME, TAPEFILE and DISKFILE).
The tape media type and the disk file node can also be
adjusted for particular requirements . DR option is
documented in a separate manual.
New Data store
Detach function.
This option
removes all the tape volumes of a data store from a BackPak
domain, without any impact on the storage, on DSM/TC and TMF
catalogs. Used as complement to the D/R option that
replicates catalog at data store level, this option allows
the user to move the management of a set of tape volumes
(all volumes of a data store) from a BackPak domain to
another.
New support of
Windows 2008 32 bits and 64 bits server
The VT
Controllers can be implemented on the latest versions of the
MS-Windows operating system.
New packaging of
the User Interface.
The new
presentation of the GUI in a regular Windows application
simplifies its installation on various Windows platforms,
including the operator workstations.
New VTC buffering
The new write
buffering in VTC Windows servers improves the stability and
performance of VTCs operating under heavy workload and
multiple concurrent devices.
Increased maximum number of ports in a
VTC
The maximum
number of FC physical ports supported in a VTC is increased
from 8 to 16 ports, allowing 'Extreme configurations'.
Small improvements in Windows scripts
New parameters
to scripts configured for Windows disk data stores, making
easier the restore on a VTC machine different from the
original one that backed up the Windows file.
Small improvements
in the statistics reports
Improvement to
the record selection for the ENFORM statistics reports
produced by OBB018 OBB019 obey files.
