This course is designed to allow participants to implement IBM Tivoli Storage Manager across the enterprise. Participants will be shown how to implement automatic policy-driven backup, restore, archive, and retrieval functions at both the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server and client workstations. Students will develop skills in using the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager administrative interfaces to allow them to manage the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager server, database, recovery log, storage pools, and client policies. The course begins with participants installing the Storage Manager server without any modifications or customizations. Through lecture and extensive hands-on exercises, the participants will customize their IBM Tivoli Storage Manager system to automate client operations and protect Storage Manager and client data. The skills learned in this course apply to all IBM Tivoli Storage Manager client and server platforms.

Course Outline

Upon the completion of this course you should be able to:

• Describe IBM Tivoli Storage Manager, it's functions and features and where to get more information.
• Install, configure and license your IBM Tivoli Storage Manager software.
• Use the administrative and client interfaces provided with Storage Manager, set up client and administrator registration and passwords, monitor the server, manage storage pools and configure libraries.
• Invoke the Storage Manager client, set up client options, backup and restore client files, and perform various other client functions.
• Describe how Storage Manager uses policies to manage data, build, define and implement policies based on a Service Level Agreement.
• Describe the Storage Manager scheduling modes available, set server and client schedule options, build client and server schedules, and manage the event log.
• Identify messages that are candidates for central logging, describe event message processing, use reporting tools and generate a Storage Manager database report.
• Backup and recover the Storage Manager database and storage pools.
